I’ve always wanted to attend the Brimfield Antique and Vintage Show in Brimfield, Massachusetts.  It’s a mile long stretch of road with everything from serious antiques to flea market finds.  If you love the hunt and want a fun but exhausting day, plan to attend the show this weekend.

While you’re there, stop by the VIP Tent sponsored by Rue Lala, Sunbrella, Benjamin Moore and Polar.  You’ll get a chance to meet Gretchen Aubuchon and Shane Inman of Fashion + Decor who will be interviewing interior designers Jamie Drake, Jaime Rummerfield, Ron Woodson, Michelle Workman, and Celerie Kemble.

#Brimfield VIP brings new social media to the venerable antique show.  Interior designers, decorators, design bloggers, fashion bloggers, celebrities, and media will organize at the VIP Tent May 16-17th.  You’ll also find charging stations, wifi service, chair massages, and snacks at the VIP Tent.

For now, I’ll have to live vicariously but #Brimfield is on my bucket list.

Today’s challenge is to add one thing that’s both beautiful and useful in that space.  And the best news is that you can borrow it from another room in your home.

You may enjoy this so much, you won’t be able to stop changing out things in your workspace!

Here are our recommendations to make any desk more inviting.

1.  A desk lamp adds warmth and ambiance.  So even if you have adequate overhead lighting, think about adding a lamp to your workspace.

2.  A beautiful vase or cup can hold pencils and pens in style and free up drawers for other stuff.

3.  Baskets and decorative boxes clear the clutter in a home office and look fabulous.  Try adding some of these.

4.  Art inspires greatness and we all need something to lift our spirits when paying bills.  A small painting on a bookshelf or a beautiful paperweight can do the trick.

5.  While you’re adding beauty, take away anything unsightly!  Get rid of the stuff you really don’t have room to store and don’t use. Pass those things along to someone who can use them.  Having some open space is beautiful too.

Every year, we schedule the cleaning and resealing of teak outdoor furniture for many of our clients.  We also have new cushions made at local reupholstery shops or we order them from the original manufacturer.  But all of this takes time.  You’ll feel ahead of the game and not rushed if you act now to make purchases of new cushions, cleaning, and maintenance.

While you’re at it, we have a few suggestions.

1.  If you need to buy new cushions, think about buying them in a new color.  Most of us get stuck in a color rut.  What about picking a complementary color for your replacement cushions?  For instance, if you have blue cushions now, what about buying a soft green or change from a solid to a stripe?

2.  Spice up your outdoor look with some fun new throw pillows.  Many companies offer lumbar and throw pillows in new patterns for the season.  Be on the look out for a pattern that will look great with your furniture.

3.  Think about the season ahead and how you would like to enjoy the outdoors.  Do you have the seating and tables you would like?  If you need to mix in some new furniture, you can do it now so that you are ready for good times ahead.
